Baijayant 'Jay' Panda

Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda is the National Vice-President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a five-time Member of Parliament. He was elected twice to the Rajya Sabha and three times to the Lok Sabha from Kendrapara, Odisha. Shri Jay Panda has worked on many important issues in Parliament, including being part of the BJP core group on Article 370. He has served as the in-charge for the BJP’s work in Assam, Delhi, and the National Mahila Morcha (Women’s Wing). He also led the committee formed by the Government of India to improve the National Cadet Corps (NCC). He studied Engineering and Management at Michigan Technological University and worked in the private sector before entering politics. Shri Jay Panda has taken part in discussions with leaders from many countries. He is known for speaking on national issues, especially those related to development, technology, and his home state of Odisha.

Biography

 

Shri Jay Panda started his career in Engineering and Management in the United States. After coming back to India, he entered politics and was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2000. Since then, he has been active in shaping policy and development discussions. He helped form the Young Parliamentarians Forum and led the India-USA Forum of Parliamentarians for many years.

 

Baijayant Jay Panda has represented India in international meetings with leaders from countries like the US, Japan, the UK, and China. In 2008, he received the Bharat Asmita Award for his work in Parliament. He has also worked on social issues, especially child malnutrition. He helped start the Citizens’ Alliance Against Malnutrition, which brings together leaders, NGOs, and public figures to spread awareness and find solutions.

 

In Parliament, he has been part of many committees. He chairs the Committee on Public Undertakings and chaired the Select Committee for the Income Tax Bill, 2025. He is also part of committees on commerce and constitutional amendments. Outside Parliament, he enjoys writing, flying aircraft and helicopters, and doing adventure sports like skydiving and bungee jumping.
